The Buxton Toy Box – Delivering Christmas Joy to Maine Children

Posted in News |

When it comes to the spirit of giving, there are very few joys greater than seeing the look of excitement on the face of a child when they open a gift on Christmas morning.   That’s what makes the Buxton Toy Box a particularly wonderful year-round effort providing Christmas joy for Buxton Maine children from birth to age 18. This program has been completely  supported by private donations since 1995, and all the work is done by volunteers.  This year, the Toy Box “elves” will be setting up their workshop in the Buxton Town Hall on December 14th to begin sorting and wrapping toys, games, books, clothes, bedding, boots, shoes, and socks. Among the many volunteers who help to make this local contribution possible is Beverly MacMillan, VP of Business Development at Equinox Insurance in Westbrook, ME. “To help this wonderful cause and be part of the Christmas magic it brings to kids and their families in my community is really rewarding and is truly in the Spirit of what this holiday season is about.” The Buxton Toy Box accepts anything new.  Children love toys, clothes, furniture, sporting goods, books, art supplies, bedding, games and school supplies.  Bicycles, dollhouses and basketball hoops are all part of the fun.  Many residents assist by knitting hats and mittens throughout the year and donate to the Toy Box.  All funds and gifts that are donated to the program are given to Buxton children.  No money is allocated through tax dollars.  Many children have had a brighter Christmas through the generous contributions to this very worthy program. If you wish to donate gifts, time, or funds to the Buxton Toy Box please call Mia Dodge at 207-807-8816. Although the Toy Box is most active between Thanksgiving and Christmas, one great way to help is to save new or gently used boxes and gift bags all year...

Is Snowmobile Insurance Required in Maine?

Posted in Tip Of The Month |

With over 90 thousand snowmobiles registered each year, many Maine residents and customers have asked the question, Is snowmobile insurance required in Maine? Although it is required in some states, Maine Snowmobile Law does not require riders to carry snowmobile insurance.  However, if you are buying a new sled and are getting it financed, the lender will typically require you to buy insurance.  Regardless of the Maine requirement, snowmobile insurance may help protect you from expenses associated with injury and property damage, whether yours or someone else’s. These can include payments for another person’s medical costs and property damage as well as your legal fees and the costs of a lawsuit. If you have adequate snowmobile liability insurance, you will be covered if another person files a claim against you for damages or injuries you cause. If you have collision and comprehensive coverage, you may be able to file a claim for your injuries or damage to your vehicle, whether it is caused by another person, a collision with an object or a fall through the ice. You may also be able to file a claim if your snowmobile is stolen.   How Much Does Snowmobile Insurance Cost? The cost of insurance for your sled varies depending on the coverage you buy and the type of machine you drive. It can be as low as around $80 to $100 per year if you buy liability coverage only. Most packages average between $300 to $400 dollars annually. An insurance company will consider a number of issues when quoting the cost of a policy, including: The make and model of the snowmobile The state or area where you live Where you will ride The age of the driver using the snowmobile Whether you will take passengers and/or allow others to ride your snowmobile The intended use of the machine such as pleasure, business or racing The deductible you choose Type of coverage you buy and/or optional coverage Need Snowmobile Insurance?  Click below to request a quote for snowmobile coverage.
